PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Senior Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS) and sophomore Kara Delicata (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich Secondary) of the University of Michigan women's tennis team competed in main draw doubles competition Thursday (Oct. 7) at the 2004 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club. Unfortunately, the Wolverine tandem was eliminated in the first round of play.
DaCosta and Delicata, who are ranked No. 8 in the preseason ITA national doubles rankings, dropped a close match to New Mexico's No. 11 duo of Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek by an 8-6 score in the opening round of the 16-team main draw bracket.
The U-M tandem begins action in the eight-team consolation draw tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 8) against No. 6 Ashley Bentley and Robin Stephenson of Alabama.
The Wolverines will return to the hardcourt at the 2004 ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Oct. 21-26 at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
