MADISON, Wis. -- University of Michigan volleyball freshman Katie Bruzdzinski (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) had 11 kills and 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season, while sophomore Erin Cobler (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) had a team-high 12 kills to go with seven digs and four blocks in a 3-0 (24-30, 29-31, 25-30) loss at Wisconsin Friday night (Nov. 19) at the UW Field House.
Sophomore Megan Bowman (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) added seven kills and four blocks, moving into 11th place on the school's all-time blocking list, while sophomore Danielle Pflum (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) finished with nine kills, including five in the final game, and added five digs and two blocks.
The loss drops the Wolverines to 18-10 overall and 8-9 in the Big Ten Conference, while Wisconsin improves to 17-8 and 11-6 in league play.
Down one game to none, the Wolverines rebounded from an early deficit in game two to tie it 9-9 and then take a 12-10 lead thanks to Badger errors and Bowman's fifth kill. U-M stayed ahead on a pair of kill by Pflum and Bruzdzinski, but the Badgers knotted it 17-17. Michigan would pulled ahead by two, 21-19, and again, 22-20, but a 4-1 Wisconsin run gave the Badgers a 24-23 advantage. Michigan tied it 26-26 on Bruzdzinski's eighth kill, and pulled ahead by one, up 27-26, but Wisconsin rebounded with two straight to lead, 28-27.
Bruzdzinski's ninth kill of the night knotted it 28-28, and after the Badgers pointed next, U-M survived one game point thanks to freshman Lyndsay Miller's (Ida, Mich./Ida) fourth kill of the night, tying it up 29-29. Unfortunately for Michigan fans, Wisconsin scored the next two points and pulled out a 31-29 game-two win.
Michigan fell behind early in game three but pulled within one, down 16-15, on Bowman's seventh kill of the night, but the Badgers regained the momentum with a 4-0 run to lead 20-15. U-M closed to within three on two occasions and came within a point of tying it up after turning a 25-19 deficit into a 26-25 game thanks to three kills from Pflum and two from Miller, but Wisconsin recorded the final four points to sweep the Wolverines in three.
Wisconsin held a decided advantage in game one, out-hitting Michigan .302 to .188, though U-M held a 4-3 advantage in blocks.
