Michigan Coach Kathy Teichert
On the finish at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate ... "I am very pleased with how we finished up the season. There were a lot of competitive teams and we competed right there with them. The scores were so close and tight that it could have been anyone who came out on top. I am very happy and very pleased with the way the team performed these last two days. I thought after the 289 in the second round we should have moved up, but it was so competitive here that we didn't move up at all. We held our composure and stayed very competitive. The results speak for themselves. We played very, very well as a team. We set out to win the tournament and that didn't happen, but I will not take anything away from the way we played and how they competed."
On the play of Ali Stinson ... "If you hit the ball and placed your drive in the right position you can score on this course. Ali has the highest fairway percentage on our team and she took advantage of that. It just goes to show you if you put it in play and then put it close to the hole you are going to make some birdies. She finished with 10 birdies and an eagle and that is outstanding. She just played so well and is hitting the ball so well. I am really excited for her and just elated with the way she has performed this fall. She has done so much for this team."
On Brianna Broderick continuing her strong fall season ... "She has played phenomenal golf. She is and has been a top 25 player in the country and has continued to prove that she deserves that recognition. Now she would be the first person to tell you she still isn't hitting the ball well, but she has still been able to score. She puts a lot of pressure on her short game, but time and time again her short game has been coming through for her. She is like smooth as silk out there. It is just so fun to watch."
On her early thoughts of the fall season ... "I am really happy with the way that the entire fall season has gone. We've given a lot of players an opportunity to play and it has been different people stepping it up here and there. Yeah, Bri (Broderick), Laura (Olin) and Ali (Stinson) have always been right at the top for us, but it has been the entire team play in each tournament that has impressed me the most. We are exactly in the place that we want to be going into our spring season. I just cannot say enough about how hard and how dedicated our players have been this fall to achieve and accomplish all the goals that we set out."
Sophomore Ali Stinson
On her tournament ... "I hit a lot of fairways. I think a difference was that I was hitting it a lot closer to the pin. That helped me make a lot more birdies because I was being so aggressive to hit it close. It was a shorter course, so I felt I could go at the pins more and I was playing with a lot of confidence so I just kept going right at the pin each hole."
On the team's second place finish ... "We are not disappointed at all. This was a very competitive tournament and there were a lot of good scores out there. We were in it from the start and Campbell just had a couple better shots than us. We played well and we are all really happy."
On the fall for the Wolverines ... "We all know that we had a good fall season and built a lot of confidence. We are just going to try and keep this feeling going through the winter. We put the clubs away for bit, but we know we can come out in February and continue right where we left off."
Sophomore Brianna Broderick
On her tournament ... "I knew I wasn't swinging at the ball very well, so this weekend I just tried to build my confidence up. I just told myself I could do it. After my first 72 I told myself, 'Bri, you have to be missing it in the right spot to be shooting that." So, I think that is what I was doing. I was playing it smart and missing the ball in the right spots. I was able to make some up-and-downs and some good putts and my short game is what really helped me this weekend."
On the Wolverines' second place finish ... "What a good way to finish off the year. Yeah, we wanted to win and we could have had a couple of better scores, but then again we had some others really come through when we needed them to and that helped us out. Even the 289 in the second round ... it just helped our confidence so much. The success we had here was a nice way to close out the fall."
On if she has thought about her successes in the fall season ... "No, I really haven't even thought about it. I am just trying to play solid golf and I am still not hitting the ball very well at all right now."
On the team success of the fall carrying through to the spring ... "We just need to work on our games individually. We will not be able to work together as a team that much, but we need to keep holding each other accountable and continue to work hard through the winter. If we do that then we can come out in the spring and pick up right where we left off, but that will be up to us."
