Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On how quickly the game started offensively ... "We knew it was going to be a fast-starting game. I think our team was emotionally ready to start fast but they weren't ready to get scored on as quick as they were. Give Minnesota credit. They're a good team and they capitalized on their chances. Their first two goals were rebound goals, loose pucks that we didn't give our defense much support on, our forwards I'm talking about. They took advantage of it. They got the crowd going, they got their confidence and they steamrolled us. We weren't very good, and they were very good."
On if giving up eight goals in the last two first periods is due to a lack of focus ... "I can't tell you that it is. The way college hockey is both teams are going to really be excited to play hard right from the start. Sometimes it goes one way or the other. Obviously, it went against tonight as bad as I can remember. Against Michigan State it was at least back and forth."
U-M Junior Forward Jeff Tambellini
On what happened tonight ... "We need to skate better. They were skating tonight and we were just watching. There were a lot of times they were just playing with the puck and nobody was ready to stop them. Nobody was ready to compete. We just didn't show up tonight."
On if the Olympic-sized ice surface played a factor ... "I think so for sure. I don't think we were ready to play on this sheet of ice. They skated tonight and they moved their feet. We just weren't able to keep up. By the end of shifts guys were dying off."
On what the team has to do for tomorrow night ... "We just have to play for pride tomorrow night. That was embarrassing on national TV for an effort like that. We have to come out and just play for pride. Give everything you have and try and do something about that game."
