Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On his thoughts about the game ... "I think everybody who was at the game saw a really good college hockey game. When you win or lose in overtime it kind of takes away from how well you played the game. As a coach I really thought it was a good game for both teams. Either team could have won. I really liked the way our team dug down and played hard and gave ourselves a chance. I thought Noah (Ruden) had a solid game. Certainly it was a good game for Michigan, although we didn't score a goal that we needed to score in overtime. I thought we played hard and I'm proud of our team."
On MSU's overtime goal ... "I can't tell you exactly, but the puck came around the boards and we had a defenseman going back and I don't know if he called Noah off or if it was a communication issue or not. That's one of those things where a goalie usually stops it and leaves it, or lets it go or wraps it. You'd have to talk to the goalie and the defenseman. It's one of those plays. You have to give the other team credit because they scored the goal. But was it an earned goal, was it a good play It's a typical overtime goal, a lucky goal. It's often not a pretty goal."
On Noah Ruden ... "I thought Noah did a great job. He came in with a little more experience than he had last year at this time and he gave us a chance. He made some big saves in this game. The good thing was he was handling all the little things and making them look easy and that's when a goalie is playing well. He did a good job for us. I thought he really was the backbone of our team back there when he had to be."
U-M Junior Forward Brandon Kaleniecki
On if the team can take some positives away from the tournament ... "Absolutely. I think for the guys in the locker room this will give us a little extra jump. We were here. We had a chance to win it. We didn't get it done but we worked as hard as we could and gave it everything we had. We almost came out with it. With the other guys coming back I think maybe they'll look at us in a different way. They'll look at us and say, 'They had a chance to win without us.' Maybe they can help us take it to the next level."
