Porter was named Rookie of the Week for the first time in his career after posting 2-3-5 totals on the weekend. Porter assisted on Rogers' goal Friday night, then had a career-high four points (2-2-4) on Saturday. He was +3 on the weekend, and his four-point game was the first for Michigan since Brandon Kaleniecki (Livonia, Mich.) and T.J. Hensick (Howell, Mich.) scored four points apiece against Bowling Green on Feb. 20, 2004. Porter has a 5-6-11 line on the season and is the first U-M player to win Rookie of the Week this season.
Rogers and Porter are the fourth and fifth Wolverines to win CCHA Player of the Week honors this season. Junior forward Jeff Tambellini (Port Moody, B.C.) won CCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors (Nov. 8), as well as being named National Offensive Player of the Week by U.S. College Hockey Online and National Player of the Week by Inside College Hockey for his 5-1-6 weekend against Miami (Ohio) Nov. 5-6. Hensick and senior defenseman Eric Werner (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) were named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week and CCHA Defenseman of the Week, respectively, Nov. 22 for their play against Michigan State.
The No. 5 Wolverines will look to extend their two-game winning streak as they play a home-and-home series with Bowling Green. Michigan plays at Yost Ice Arena on Friday (Dec. 10, 7:35 p.m.) then travels to play at BGSU Ice Arena on Saturday (Dec. 11, 7:05 p.m.).
