DaCosta Earns First Career Athlete of the Week Award

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS), a member of the University of Michigan women's tennis team, was named today (Wednesday, April 21) Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week, in recognition of her performance against Illinois and Purdue.

DaCosta rallied from a 1-5 deficit in the third set to record a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 decision over the Boilermakers' Hala Sufi and clinch the Wolverines' 4-3 victory over Purdue. She also notched a dominant 8-1 doubles win over Gretchen Haynor and Melissa Woods.
The Big Ten Athlete of the Week award is the first of DaCosta's career and third for Michigan this season. DaCosta joins senior Kavitha Tipirneni (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby HS) and junior Leanne Rutherford (LaSalle, Ontario/National Sports School) among this season's conference honorees.
The No. 29 Wolverines (14-4, 5-3 Big Ten) ends the regular season with a final pair of home dual meets this weekend. The Wolverines will face No. 10 Northwestern on Saturday (April 24) before squaring off against No. 50 Wisconsin on Sunday (April 25). Both duals are slated for an 11 a.m. start at the Varsity Tennis Center.
