Tannenbaum Wins Weight Class at University Nationals

EVANSTON, Ill. -- University of Michigan freshman Eric Tannenbaum (Naperville, Ill./North HS) claimed first place at 145.5 pounds to lead a contingent of eight Wolverine wrestlers at the University National Freestyle Championships, held May 8 at Northwestern University.

Freshman Joshua Weitzel (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford HS) and junior/sophomore Greg Wagner (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider HS) also had strong showings in the freestyle competition, each placing fourth at 185 and 264.5 pounds, respectively. Weitzel was dominant in his performance, rebounding from a second-round loss to register a 7-2 mark with six wins by technical fall. Wagner recorded a 3-2 mark, falling to Oregon State's Ty Watterson 7-3 in the third-place match.
Sophomore/freshman Nick Roy (Wall, N.J./Wall HS) rounded out Michigan's placers at the annual tournament, claiming eighth at 185 pounds with a 3-3 record.
