Kingston Added to Wolverines Staff as Volunteer Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney announced the addition of Scott Kingston to his coaching staff. Kingston fills the volunteer coaching position for the Wolverines and replaces two-year volunteer coach Scott Mallernee, who in June accepted the head coaching job at Vanguard University in California.

A native of Columbus, Ga., Kingston was an all-state performer at Columbus High School while playing on three state championship teams (1992-94-95) under head coach Bobby Howard. Kingston's Blue Devils were rated ninth in the nation by Baseball America following his senior season (1995).
Drafted by the New York Yankees in 1995, Kingston attended Middle Georgia College in 1996 but suffered a wrist injury. He played two seasons at Columbus State and finished his collegiate baseball career at West Georgia in 1999. Kingston returned to Columbus State and earned his B.S. in criminal justice in 2000.
Kingston began his coaching career as an assistant for two seasons (2001-02) at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md. He was the hitting and infield instructor and assisted with the recruiting at FSU.
Kingston, who served as a deputy sheriff in Loudoun County, Va., the past two years, heads to Michigan after coaching the 2004 season at the high school level as an assistant coach at Thomas Johnson High in Frederick, Md.
