QUOTES
Michigan Head Coach Andrew Sapp
On the Wolverines final round ... "Even though it was a small improvement we had some good final round scores that I was pleased with. To see Kevin, Matt and Rob really hold onto to their rounds and bring them back for solid showings says a lot about them. I am very pleased for them."
On the tournament as a whole ... "We really just needed to come out better. We have to get off to the right start to get the whole tournament going. We did not really do that this week, but we still had some positives. Heading into next week, we basically have some guys playing well and some guys that need to put some things together. Hopefully, we can break out from some of those things this week as we head to Madison. We just need to keep focusing on what we need to do and concentrate on getting better and better."
On the play of Brian Ottenweller ... "What a wonderful way to start your college career a top 10 finish. This should only help him build confidence for the future. He has definitely earned a spot for next week, but we just cannot begin to say how pleased we are for him."
Freshman Brian Ottenweller
On performing so well in his first collegiate tournament ... "It was pretty awesome. I was a little motivated not being in the starting five, but I just used that throughout the tournament to do the best that I could. Really, I just had alot of fun out there. I mean what a good was to start your college career. The team did not do as well as we wanted to, but it was the first tournament and we need to just keep moving forward. Hopefully, I can get into the lineup and help them in any way I can."
On if he felt any nerves during the weekend ... "I knew I needed to come out and play well. But I also knew that I needed to come out and remain calm and keep playing the game that I have played for the last 12 or so years. I cannot say I felt pressure, but I was a little nervous playing with some of the seniors. You look around and every college golfer is good. There isn't an opportunity for a letdown with them. For the most part, I just stayed within myself and had fun."
NOTES
• For just the second time in the team's history, the Wolverines are hosting a tournament at Radrick Farms Golf Course. The last time U-M had a tournament at Radrick Farms was in 1993. The Maize and Blue normally host its annual tournament at the U-M Golf Course, but the U-M women's team was hosting the Lady Northern Invitational.
• Matt McLaughlin lowered his 54-hole tournament best total by five strokes with a 221 total at the Radrick Farms Intercollegiate. His prior best was 226, which he had twice -- 2003 Franklin Street Trust Invitational and 2004 Puerto Rico Classic.
• Freshmen Brian Ottenweller and Tim Schaetzel both made their collegiate debuts at the Radrick Farms Intercollegiate. Ottenweller finished as the top Wolverine despite playing as an individual. He tied for ninth with a 217 total (71-71-75). Schaetzel tied for 71st (79-77-76/232).
