Make Room in the Showcase
With the Lady Northern Invitational title, the Wolverines now have won 23 team titles in team history. The title marks just the second time the Maize and Blue have won the Lady Northern, with the first coming in the 2001-02 season. The title also gives U-M coach Kathy Teichert 15 titles in her 12 seasons in Ann Arbor. In addition to that, the Wolverines have now won at least one tournament in four of the last five seasons.
A Major Conference Accomplishment
With the Lady Northern Invitational title, it marks the first time Wolverines have ever been at a tournament and finished ahead of every other Big Ten school. All 11 conference teams were at the U-M Golf Course over the weekend. In 2001, Michigan won the Lady Northern, but there were only eight teams present.
Could this be Dj vu
The last time the Wolverines won the Lady Northern Invitational was in 2001. That victory in Urbana, Ill., sparked an undefeated fall season for the Maize and Blue as they went 4-0. Later that season, the Wolverines went to their second straight NCAA Regional appearance and advanced to the program's first ever appearance at the NCAA Championships, where they finished 17th.
Title Run is Third Best All-Time
Michigan's 54-hole total of 881 is the third best tournament total of all-time. The Wolverines had team tally's of 294, 291 and 296, which mark the first three times the Wolverines have ever broken 300 at a home tournament. The all-time U-M mark is 873 (290-291-292) at the 2001 Lady Northern Invitational.
Olin Starts Strong in Final Campaign
Laura Olin's tie for second at the Lady Northern Invitational marks her seventh top five finish of her career. In her last 26 tournaments, or since the beginning of her sophomore season, she has led or tied for the team lead 20 times. For her career, she has led the Maize and Blue in 21 of 29 career tournaments.
