Michigan 19th in Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Rating

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Behind back-to-back tournament wins, the University of Michigan women's golf team has vaulted itself into the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Rating Top 25, as the Wolverines are 19th as of the Sept. 19 rankings.
The Wolverines, who are among three Big Ten teams in the top 25, have a performance rating of 73.72. Duke sits atop the poll with a rating of 70.79, with Washington (71.29) second and Arizona State (71.62) third.
In the individual rankings a pair of Wolverines have cracked in the Top 50. Sophomore Brianna Broderick (Richmond, Mo./Richmond HS) is in the 28th spot (71.84), while senior Laura Olin (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) is 45th (72.48).
Michigan opened its 2004-05 season in grand fashion as it hosted and won the Lady Northern Invitational (Sept. 11-12) at the U-M Golf Course in Ann Arbor. The victory marked the first time in the program's history the Wolverines defeated the other 10 Big Ten schools in one event. It was also the second time U-M has captured the Lady Northern trophy, after winning in 2001.
The following week (Sept. 18-19), the Wolverines continued their hot streak by capturing the Mary Fossum Invitational title at Forest Akers West Course in East Lansing, Mich. En route to the team victory, Broderick earned her first collegiate victory, winning by seven strokes.
The performance rating system is based on a mathematical formula that uses a player's won-lost-tied record against other players when they play on the same course on the same day, and the stroke differential between those players, then links all players to one another based on common opponents. The ratings give an indication of who is playing well over the past 52 weeks.
