This marks the first time since the 1999-2000 season that the Wolverines have started the season 4-0-0. Red Berenson's best winning streak to start a season came in 1996-97 when the Wolverines started out 6-0-0.
Matt Hunwick extended his point streak to four games with an assist on Andrew Cogliano's second goal of the game. He has a 3-6-9 line over that four-game span.
T.J. Hensick moved his point streak to four games following a four-point (1-3-4) outburst. He has recorded a multi-point game in all four contests this season and has a 2-8-10 line.
Kevin Porter netted his first career hat trick, with all three goals coming in the first period. His previous career high was two. This is the second hat trick by a Wolverine this season. Matt Hunwick tallied a hat trick last Saturday (Oct. 8) in a 5-3 win over Quinnipiac.
Andrew Cogliano's first-period tally set a number of firsts for the freshman. That goal was the first of his career, his first power-play goal, his first game-winning goal and first career point. He finished the contest with two goals and two assists, which were also the first two of his career.
Jack Johnson extended his point streak to three games with a career-high-tying three assists. He has a 2-6-8 line over that three-game span.
Zac MacVoy and Tyler Swystun each netted his first career goal.
Mark Mitera tallied his first career point with an assist in the first period.
The Wolverines scored five power-play goals on 12 chances. The last time Michigan scored five power-play tallies was at Notre Dame on Dec. 2, 2004.
Noah Ruden made his first appearance and start of the season. He made 25 saves while allowing two goals in 49:49. Mike Mayhew also made his season debut after taking over for Ruden in the third period.

Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On the fast start of today's game ... "The importance of the start of the game has a lot to do with the direction in which the goals are scored. I like the fact that we got off to a good start in both games this weekend, tonight in particular. That gets some momentum going and some confidence. We had a lot of players get some quality ice time. If you look at our freshmen, (Andrew) Cogliano scored his first goal, (Travis) Turnbull scored a winner (against Boston College) Friday night and (Zach) MacVoy scored his first. The point is that everyone's starting to contribute a little more. Hopefully our team took a step forward from a week ago."
On what the team needs to continue to work on throughout the season ... "I think it's the same laundry list of things that we have to do a little better -- whether it's our puck touches, are we passing the puck as well, are we turning it over too much, are we taking advantage of our rushes, are we penetrating the blueline. ... I can give you 20 different things that we gave to do better, but I like a lot of the things that we're doing. I like the team. I like their energy. I like their leadership. I like their talent. You're going to see a lot of players grow right in front of your eyes and that's what it's all about."
