Breaston Shares Big Ten Special Teams Weekly Award

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference announced today (Monday, Oct. 17) that senior wide receiver/kickoff specialist Steve Breaston (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills HS) of the University of Michigan football team has been named the co-Special Teams Player of the Week for his play in the Wolverines' 27-25 victory against No. 8 Penn State on Saturday (Oct. 15). Breaston shares the conference's weekly award with Ohio State's Ashton Youboty.

He has 44 touches for 703 all-purpose yards (16.0 avg.) this season and leads the team with an average of 117.2 all-purpose yards per contest. Breaston has 15 kickoff returns for 408 yards (27.2 avg.) and one touchdown on a 95-yard return vs. Minnesota (Oct. 8). He has 14 punt returns for 153 yards (10.9 avg.), including a 72-yard return against Eastern Michigan (Sept. 11). Offensively, Breaston has picked up 44 rushing yards on five attempts and added 10 receptions for 98 yards.
Breaston is the second Wolverine to receive recognition as the Big Ten Player of the Week, joining sophomore tailback Mike Hart (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga Central HS), who received the offensive award following his 218-yard rushing effort in Michigan's 34-31 overtime win at Michigan State (Oct. 1).
Michigan travels to Iowa this Saturday (Oct. 22) for a regionally televised game on ABC Sports. The game will kick off at 11 a.m. CDT (noon EDT).
