Brady Receives Second Big Ten Award in Three Weeks

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior Kaitlyn Brady (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant HS) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team earned Big Ten Conference Swimmer of the Week for her performance this past weekend (Nov. 18-20) at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational. It is her second award in three weeks; she also earned the honor for her performance against Georgia on Nov. 5.

On Friday (Nov. 18), Brady swam the first leg (23.11) of the 200-yard freestyle relay to help her quartet to a third-place finish and a NCAA consideration time of 1:32.29. Brady then earned a top finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 22.66, her first automatic qualifying time of the year. Brady finished the day swimming the first leg on the Wolverines' first-place 400-yard medley relay team that swam a consideration time of 3:42.24.
On Saturday (Nov. 19), Brady swam on the second-place 200-yard medley relay team that earned a consideration time of 1:41.76. Brady then grabbed her second top finish of the weekend with a first-place consideration time of 53.97 in the 100-yard butterfly. Brady swam a first-place consideration time in the 100-yard backstroke preliminaries but chose not to swim in the finals.
On Sunday (Nov. 20), Brady rounded out the weekend with her third top finish in as many days and second NCAA automatic qualifying time of the weekend, clocking in at 1:56.35 in the 200-yard backstroke to finish more than two seconds ahead of the runner-up. She also swam an automatic qualifying time in the 200-yard backstroke preliminaries. Brady finished off the meet swimming on the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay team that combined to touch the wall at 3:21.72, surpassing an NCAA consideration time.
This is the fourth conference award of her career. She was also named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week two times last season as a sophomore in 2004-05.
