Also, the two helpers give Johnson 19 total points (4-15-19), which ties for 10th on the freshman defenseman points list with three other players, most recently Aaron Ward (1990-91).

Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On tonight's game ... "When our power play is turning the puck over and giving up shorthanded goals it gives the other team a huge life. That was part of the game. The other part of the game was we turned the puck over too much all over the ice. Their power play was stronger than ours, their penalty killing was stronger than ours, and their team was stronger than ours."
On what needs to happen in order to win Saturday night ... "We have to refocus. We have to really refocus on the kind of hockey we came here to play and play it. They're a good team. They don't give you much. We had isolated chances, but they carried the play to us most of the night. The second period was embarrassing."
U-M Junior Forward T.J. Hensick
On what happened during the second period ... "We didn't keep our heads cool. They were all over us all night trying to get us off our game, which is smart on their part. I have to give them credit for getting our team off our game. The penalties, them chirping, and a lot of little things went into getting us off our game, and it worked."
U-M Freshman Goalie Billy Sauer
On his 42-save performance ... "I felt really good today. I was actually hoping I would get a lot of shots because I had a ton of energy. I was sitting there before the game and I heard all the stands booing us and I couldn't wait to get out there."
On if the team was rattled during the second period ... "Obviously, when you get two shorthanded goals scored against you within about a minute you're going to get rattled. Unfortunately, it's a bad bounce, both of those. What are you going to do about them. Personally, I just tried to say, 'Hey, nothing happened. Just play it like a 0-0 game right now.'"
