Michigan Head Coach Cheryl Burnett
Opening statement ... "I thought our kids played hard and gave a good effort. We've had a string where we've really been trying to limit our turnovers. The statistic that jumps out at me the most is probably the rebounding. I thought we did some great things late in the first half to try to get back in the game. We knew that Illinois is very post-oriented, but their perimeter players hit a few shots early on. I thought Illinois did a really great job of stepping up in the second half. Their athleticism created a lot of differences that affected the game, specifically with the rebounding. We didn't do a good job of moving the defense as much as we need to, what we call our motion or execution. It was enough to make a difference in this game."
On Michigan's season-high 22 three-point attempts ... "I thought early on in the game that Illinois would step out and pressure us more. Instead, they were a sagging man and our players didn't do a good job of screening the sag. That really jammed the lane a bit. There were some moments when we had kick the ball back out once we got it into the post. Our execution was not very good, we had a lot of players standing and watching rather than moving away from the basketball, which is always a tendency of young teams."
