VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Freshman forward Andrew Cogliano (Woodbridge, Ontario) of the University of Michigan ice hockey team was invited to Canada's National Junior Selection Camp, Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League announced on Monday (Dec. 5). The camp, which will identify Canada's World Junior team, is scheduled to take place from Dec. 11-16 in Vancouver, B.C.
Of the 34 players under the age of 20 invited to the selection camp, 22 will be kept to make up the final roster for the 2006 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship. Cogliano is one of 18 forwards competing for likely 13 spots up front. He is one of five U.S. college players selected to try out for Team Canada. The tournament will take place Dec. 26, 2005, through Jan. 5, 2006, in Vancouver.
Cogliano, who last August attended the Canadian National Junior Evaluation Camp in Whistler, B.C., is second in points among U-M freshmen and is tied for the third on the team in scoring (7-10-17). He was named CCHA Rookie of the Week on Nov. 7.
No. 7 Michigan returns to CCHA play Friday and Saturday (Dec. 9-10) with a two-game home series against Nebraska-Omaha. Faceoffs are slotted for 7:35 p.m. at Yost Ice Arena.
