U-M Ranked Fourth in Preseason National Coaches Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team is ranked No. 4 in the preseason USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches' Association poll of the 2005 season, released Thursday (March 10). The Wolverines are joined by Big Ten Conference rival Ohio State in the top five.
Michigan's first varsity eight returns five rowers and its coxswain from its 2004 squad that finished third at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif. The veterans include seniors Tara Medina (Mill Bay, B.C./Brentwood SS), Leah Ketcheson (Belleville, Ontario/Bayside SS), Crystal Culp (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley SS) and Brett Sickler (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS); and juniors Stesha Carl (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson HS) and Janine Hanson (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary's Academy).
Michigan, which is the reigning Big Ten Conference champion, is joined in the top 20 by fellow Big Ten members Ohio State (No. 5), Michigan State (No. 11) and Wisconsin (No. 12).
The 2005 Wolverines are scheduled to begin their season March 19 on Belleville Lake when they host No. 16 Notre Dame.
