PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference announced today (April 27) that the University of Michigan football team's game at Northwestern on Oct. 29 has been selected for a nationally-televised primetime audience on the ESPN Television Network. The Wolverines, one of seven league schools slated to play in night games this season, have compiled a 17-8 overall record in night games starting after 5 p.m. local time.
The game at Northwestern will be broadcast at either 7 p.m. EDT/6 p.m. CDT on ESPN or shown at 7:45 p.m. EDT/6:45 p.m. CDT on ESPN2. The final decision on which of the ESPN networks televising the game will be made at a later date.
This will be the Wolverines' first night game since the school-record-setting comeback at Minnesota on Oct. 10, 2003. Trailing 28-7 entering the fourth quarter against the Gophers, the Wolverines rallied with 31 points in the final stanza to defeat Minnesota, 38-35. Then freshman kicker Garrett Rivas (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit HS) converted the game-winning 33-yard field goal with 47 seconds left in the game.
The match-up with Northwestern will be the 26th night game in Michigan history. The Wolverines defeated the Wildcats, 12-6, in the only previous evening contest played between the two schools (Oct. 17, 1998). Michigan has won seven consecutive evening games heading into the Northwestern game, and 10 of its last 11.
