Wolverines Post Solid Performances at Hillsdale Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team registered solid performances at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays, held Thursday through Saturday (April 28-30) at Ken Herrick Track.

Senior Nick Meter (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) paced the Wolverines on the track, claiming fourth place among the 35-man field in the 400-meter hurdles. Meter clocked 54.32 to finish less than a second behind race winner Nick Ivancic of Kent State.

In the field events, U-M boasted a trio of top-10 placers in the pole vault as sophomore/freshman Kevin Day (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence HS) claimed seventh place (14-6) and senior/junior captain Craig Theissen (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny HS) and junior Spencer Dowdall (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs HS) tied for 10th at 14-0.

Junior/sophomore Adam Kiesler (Rochester, Mich./Rochester HS) and junior/sophomore Paul Sarantos (Portage, Mich./North HS) also registered top-10 performances in the long jump and shot put, respectively. Kiesler jumped 22-5 1/4 to earn ninth place, while Sarantos posted a mark of 49-8 1/2 for 10th in the throwing event.

The Wolverines will host the annual Len Paddock Invitational -- their lone outdoor home meet -- on Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, at Ferry Field. The final tuneup before the postseason, the meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
