ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Persistent rain and lightning Friday evening (May 13) led to postponement of baseball and softball action hosted by the University of Michigan.
Softball's Big Ten Tournament semifinals were moved to Saturday morning (May 14), with No. 2 seed Northwestern and No. 3 seed Iowa playing at 9 a.m. and No. 1 seed Michigan facing No. 5 seed Wisconsin in the second semifinal matchup at approximately 11 a.m. at Alumni Field. The tournament championship game will then take place following the conclusion of those games at a time to be determined.
Baseball's series opener vs. Indiana was rained out before the lights were even turned on at Ray Fisher Stadium as the storm hit about a half-hour before game time. The four-game weekend series has been restructured with a pair of doubleheaders -- a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning game Saturday (May 14) starting at 2 p.m. and a seven-inning game and finish with a nine-inning game Sunday (May 15) at noon.
The probable pitchers for the Wolverines on Saturday are senior co-captains RHP Jim Brauer (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) and RHP Michael Penn (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian) . Brauer, 6-2 with a 2.59 ERA, would start the opener and Penn, 5-2 with a 2.52 ERA, the second game.
