ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team coaching staff announced on Thursday (July 28) that junior John D'Arcy (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont HS) and seniors Brad Miller (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion HS) and Rondell Ruff (Detroit, Mich./Henry Ford HS) have been as team tri-captains for the 2006 season.
D'Arcy was a member of the Wolverines' 4x400-meter relay that claimed seventh place at the 2005 Mideast Regional, clocking 3:06.95 - the second-fastest performance in the event in program history. He is a three-time Big Ten Conference scorer and owns personal bests of 47.45 in the 400-meter dash and 1:18.21 in the 600m and 1:52.31 over 800 meters.
After splitting his time between the high jump and triple during his first two seasons, Miller concentrated solely on the former in 2005 and improved his average by more than two inches. Miller registered a personal-best 6-11 at the Meyo Invitational (Feb. 5), scored at both the indoor and outdoor Big Ten meets and tied for ninth place at the NCAA Mideast Regional.
Capping an outstanding 2005 season, Ruff placed fifth in the NCAA Mideast Regional 1,500-meter run to earn his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif., just two weeks after boasting a personal-best 1:49.67 at 800 meters at the Big Ten meet. He was a member of the Wolverines' NCAA champion distance medley relay squad during the indoor portion of the schedule as well as the winning 4x800-meter relay at the prestigious Penn Relays.
