Michigan Head Swimming Coach Bob Bowman
On what he liked today ... "I liked the way we raced. We have a fairly young team, primarily freshmen and sophomores. We raced against what, in my opinion, is one of the top three teams in the country. Our times were excellent compared to first of the year times a year ago or what I even expected. I'm very pleased with how our boys raced and what their times were."
On facing Florida for the season opener ... "My whole theory behind this year is that we have a very young team and we're going to test them. I want them to know what the best teams are doing and what it takes to be one of the best. Florida was the first step for that."
U-M Sophomore Matt Patton
On the meet ... "It was a really tough team. As a first meet, especially for our freshmen, we stepped up well. Our times were good, especially in comparison to last year. I think a couple of people stepped up and we had a really good meet, we just couldn't come out with a win. It's definitely a step closer to where we want to be. It's just a building period right now. Hopefully, by the end of the year we'll be able to stay with these guys at NCAAs."
U-M Freshman Scott Spann
On how he feels he did today ... "I thought I did well for the hard training we're doing right now. I also felt the team did a lot better than I would have expected at this point. We are working on a lot of stuff and we're going to be a lot faster towards the end of the season."
On making his collegiate debut ... "I'm happy about it. It's a little sooner than I thought we would have our first meet, but I'm really pleased with how we performed today. There are a lot of positive aspects going into the next few meets."
U-M Junior Grant Burtch
On the team's youth ... "We are so together and we are all there for each other. We're going to fight for each other. Like you saw today, a lot of people stepping up when the team was down and people had some good swims and were able to step up. I think because we are younger, we are close in age and in everything we do."
U-M Diving Coach Chris Bergre
On today's meet ... "I thought the men have been practicing a lot better than what they showed in the meet. Although I did see some nice diving in the meet, I thought the overall performance under pressure and in the dual meet could be better. Florida is a pretty tough team; they have a kid that is nationally ranked. He's really good and it was good to for us to go up against him to keep my kids honest and working hard and towards the championship season."
