U-M Trio Named to AFCA All-America Team

WACO, Texas -- A school-record three members of the University of Michigan football team were named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team announced today (Nov. 30). Senior defensive end LaMarr Woodley (Saginaw, Mich./Saginaw HS), senior cornerback Leon Hall (Vista, Calif./Vista HS) and senior left tackle Jake Long (Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer East HS) earned spots on the team, which is selected exclusively by the nation's coaches.
U-M has had multiple recipients 14 times since the inception of the AFCA All-America team in 1945. The last time the Wolverines had two AFCA All-Americans was 2004, when wide receiver Braylon Edwards and cornerback Marlin Jackson were honored by the organization.
The Wolverines' three All-America selections were the most of any team nationally. California, Louisiana State, Ohio State and West Virginia each had two players named All-Americans.
ADDITIONAL ALL-AMERICA HONORS: Rivals.com announced its 2006 All-America Team today, with tailback Mike Hart (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga Central HS), Jake Long, Leon Hall and LaMarr Woodley all earning first-team honors. The Wolverines four first team selections tied Ohio State for the most nationally. Woodley was also named the Rivals.com Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, inside linebacker David Harris (Grand Rapids, Mich./Ottawa Hills HS) and defensive tackle Alan Branch (Rio Rancho, N.M./Cibola HS) were named to the Rivals.com second team, and quarterback Chad Henne (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson HS) and wide receiver Mario Manningham (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding HS) earned third-team honors.
