This Week: NCAA Great Lakes Regional
The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team will run at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bowling Green, Ohio, on Saturday (Nov. 11). The 10,000-meter regional meet will be held at the Forrest Creason Golf Course, and is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m.
Last Time at the NCAA Regional
Mike Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Hillcrest HS) claimed fourth place, pacing the University of Michigan men's cross country team to eighth-place (209 points) at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at Indiana's IU Cross Country Course last season. Wisconsin claimed the regional team title and Notre Dame placed second for the second straight year to secure the two automatic NCAA bids. Competing in the first 10,000-meter race of the season, Woods registered his best-ever NCAA performance with the top-five finish an qualified as an individual for the NCAA championships.
Last Meet: Big Ten Championships
Michigan earned a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 29, scoring five runners in the top 30 at the Indiana Cross Country Championship Course. The Wolverines were led by sophomore Lex Williams (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter), who placed sixth overall with a time of 24:29, and junior Mike Woods, who followed shortly behind, capturing eighth place (24:41). The performance from Williams was good enough for an All-Big Ten first team citation, while Woods finish earned him an All-Big Ten second team honor.
Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree -- Lex Williams
Lex Williams was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award after the Big Ten Championship for his ethical behavior and good sportsmanship during competition while maintaining good academic standing and demonstrating good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. He is now eligible for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the school year.
Big Ten Runner Of The Week
Sophomore/freshman Brandon Fellows (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) was named Big Ten Conference Runner of the Week for his winning performance at the Michigan Open (Sept. 1). Competing in his first collegiate race, Fellows finished ahead of the entire Michigan Open pack, completing the 10,000-meter course in 32:14.

Ron Warhurst is in his 33rd season as the head coach of the Michigan men's cross country team. During his U-M tenure, Warhurst has produced six Big Ten Conference championship teams (1974, '75, '76, '80(tie), '93, '97, '98) and guided 13 squads to top-10 performances at the NCAA Championships. Individually, Warhurst has coached 21 different student-athletes to 39 NCAA All-America honors while at Michigan.
On The Horizon
The Wolverines hope to continue their postseason run at the NCAA Championships on Monday, Nov. 20, in Terre Haute, Ind. The 10,000-meter men's race will start around 11 a.m. at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course.
