Women's Gymnastics Picked No. 6 in Preseason Poll

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team is ranked No. 6 in the 2007 GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll, released Monday (Dec. 4). Michigan is the top-ranked Big Ten team in the coaches poll, ahead of No. 14 Penn State, No. 21 Minnesota and No. 22 Michigan State. Three other conference teams -- Illinois, Ohio State and Iowa -- received votes in the poll, but did not make the top 25.
Defending national champion Georgia topped the preseason poll, followed by Utah, Florida and Alabama. Michigan will face three of the top 10 teams during the season, visiting No. 1 Georgia on March 9 and No. 2 Utah on Feb. 23, and hosting No. 7 Nebraska on Feb. 9.
The Wolverines finished the 2006 campaign with a seventh-place performance the NCAA Championships. U-M advanced to nationals for the 14th straight season after winning the program's eighth regional crown.
The Maize and Blue hosts the team's intrasquad meet on Friday (Dec. 8) at 7:30 p.m. in Crisler Arena, and is set to begin the regular season at No. 24 West Virginia on Friday, Jan. 12.
