Recapping the NCAA Indoor Championships
Behind an All-America showing in the 60-meter hurdles, the Wolverines claimed a share to the 37th spot at last weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships (March 10-11) in Fayetteville, Ark. Three individuals represented the Maize and Blue at the annual meet with junior Jeff Porter (Somerset, N.J./Franklin HS) turning in the lone scoring performance with a fourth-place finish in the high hurdles. The Wolverines have boasted at least one NCAA indoor All-American in each of the last four seasons.

Port Authority
Junior Jeff Porter place fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 10-11) to claim All-America honors for the first time in his collegiate career. The Wolverine blazed a personal-best 7.77 -- shaving 0.01 seconds from his previous mark -- to register the second-quickest performance in U-M program history, coming just 0.01 seconds shy of the school record 7.76, set by Thomas Wilcher in 1986. Porter is just the sixth Wolverine to earn such distinction in the indoor high hurdles and the first to accomplish the feat since Neil Gardner captured the 55-meter crown in 1997.
Holly-Woods
Sophomore Mike Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Hillcrest HS) competed in a pair of events -- the mile and the 3,000-meter run -- in his NCAA Indoor Championships debut last weekend (March 10-11). The Wolverine just missed All-America honors in the mile, taking ninth place with a time of 4:16.63 -- just 0.63 seconds out of the final scoring position. He returned just a little more than an hour later for the 3,000-meter event, in which he clocked 8:16.51 to claim 11th place.
Triple Threat
Junior Michael Whitehead (East Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area HS) also made his NCAA Indoor Championships debut last weekend (March 10-11), competing in the triple jump. Posting a distance of 50-7 1/4 in the preliminary round, Whitehead sat 14th overall after three jumps and missed the final cut by nearly two feet.
On the Horizon
The Wolverines will take a two-week hiatus before resuming their outdoor slate with the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, April 1 in Atlanta, Ga.
