CONWAY, S.C. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team picked up a pair of individual event titles to kick off the outdoor slate at the Shamrock Invitational, held Friday and Saturday (March 17-18) at the Coastal Carolina Track and Field Facility.

Senior/junior Adam Kiesler (Rochester, Ill./Rochester HS), who will make his career debut in the multi-events after redshirting the indoor season, competed in three events and claimed his first collegiate win with a mark of 22-9 in the long jump, topping the 38-man field by more than an inch. The Wolverine also clocked a time of 23.26 to place 23rd in the 200-meter run and made his collegiate debut in the javelin, taking 11th place with a throw of 159-3.

Senior/junior Paul Sarantos (Portage, Mich./Northern HS) headlined the U-M throwers' efforts, all of whom kept themselves busy at the outdoor debut, earning his first collegiate victory with win in the shot put competition behind a throw of 52-6 1/2. Sarantos also earned another top-five finish in the discus with a career-best 151-10 performance and claimed 13th in the hammer throw (163-11).

Freshman Sean Pruitt (Cato, Wis./Valders HS) gave the Wolverines a sweep of the top two positions in the shot put, claiming runner-up honors with a throw of 50-9 1/2, while junior Chris McHugh (Bonita Springs, Fla./Bishop Hendricken HS) registered a mark of 175-9 to place fifth in the hammer throw.

Fifth-year senior Rondell Ruff (Detroit, Mich./Henry Ford HS) made his return to the U-M lineup after training through the indoor season with no remaining eligibility, completing the double in the 800-meter and mile runs. The Wolverine captain took third in the half-mile event, clocking a time of 1:54.35, and claimed sixth in the mile with a season-debut time of 4:27.84.

The Wolverines will take a two-week hiatus before returning to action on Saturday, April 1, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
