Hurdles Winner Porter Paces Wolverines at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Junior Jeff Porter (East Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area HS) earned his fifth victory of the season, capturing the 60-meter high hurdles crown to pace the University of Michigan men's track and field team at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday (March 4) at Notre's Loftus Sports Complex.
Porter clocked 7.81 to just narrowly outlean Purdue's Ricky Pinckney at the finish line, beating the Boilermaker by 0.009 seconds. While the performance ranked as the second fastest of Porter's career, it did not improve on his season-best clocking of 7.78. The Wolverine entered the weekend sitting seventh on the NCAA performance list.
Freshman Justin Switzer (Waterford, Mich./Kettering HS), freshman Lex Williams (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter HS) and senior Brad Miller (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion HS) also turned in solid top-20 individual finishes. Switzer claimed 17th in the mile run with a time of 4:07.38, while Williams registered 8:20.10 to place 19th in the 3,000-meter run. Miller scored a fifth-place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at the 6-9 mark.
The Wolverines will send their contigent of qualifiers to the NCAA Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) in Fayetteville, Ark.
