Cogliano, Johnson Selected for CCHA All-Rookie Team

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Freshman forward Andrew Cogliano (Woodbridge, Ontario) and freshman defenseman Jack Johnson (Ann Arbor, Mich.) of the University of Michigan ice hockey team were two of the six players named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team on Wednesday (March 8). The squad was determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Cogliano led the CCHA rookies with 10 conference goals and tied for second with 21 points. His 12 goals on the season are good for fourth place in the Michigan lineup, and his three game-winning goals are tied for best on the team. He earned CCHA Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 7.
Johnson's 7-14-21 line is tops among freshman defensemen in CCHA play and third best among all blueliners in the league. His 30 points lead all rookie defensemen in both the CCHA and the nation. Johnson leads all U-M defensemen in points and assists (21), and his nine goals tie him for the most tallies by a Michigan defender. He earned CCHA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 10, immediately followed by a CCHA Defenseman of the Week honor on Oct. 17.
Johnson is also climbing the record book in his rookie season for the Maize and Blue. His 30 points give him sole possession of second on U-M's all-time freshman defenseman points list. His 21 helpers and nine goals also put him in second on the all-time freshman defenseman assists and goals list.
Freshman defenseman Mark Mitera (Livonia, Mich.) was an All-CCHA Rookie Team honorable mention. Mitera has nine assists in 34 games this season. He has a +8 plus/minus rating.
The Wolverines have had at least one CCHA All-Rookie Team honoree in 13 of the 18 years that the league has recognized its top freshmen. This marks the 10th time that U-M has had multiple players on the All-Rookie Team. In all, 29 Wolverines have collected All-Rookie accolades.
The Wolverines (18-13-5, 13-10-5 CCHA) will open play in the CCHA tournament this weekend, hosting Ferris State in a best-of-three quarterfinal-round series Friday through Sunday (March 10-12) at Yost Ice Arena. All three games, if necessary, are scheduled for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop.
