Louis Robinson Jr. Joins Staff as New Assistant Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan womens gymnastics team will welcome Louis Robinson Jr. to the program as its new assistant coach, announced Tuesday (July 25) by head coach Bev Plocki.

Robinson was an assistant coach at the University of Florida for two seasons (2004-05) after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Ohio State from 2001-04.
We are happy to welcome someone new to the program with the expertise and experience that Louis has, said Plocki. He is an excellent technical coach and we love his coaching style which is very energetic and motivational. Louis will help bring a whole new energy to the gym.
"I am excited to return to collegiate gymnastics," said Robinson. "Returning to the Big Ten is a great thrill and being a part of the best program in the conference is very exciting."
Robinson owns Midwest Gymnastics in Dublin, Ohio, founding the club in 1988. He coached 72 national qualifiers, six national champions, five Junior Olympic national team members and had 14 of his gymnasts receive NCAA Division I scholarships with Midwest Gymnastics. Robinson has also worked as a regional clinician at numerous Region 5 camps for level 8-elite gymnasts and prior to Midwest Gymnastics, served as a gymnastics coach at Columbus Gymnastics Academy from 1979-1988.
Robinson attended Ohio State from 1979-December 1983 and pursued a degree in business management and human resources. He was also a member of OSU's 1982-83 national champion cheerleading squad.
He and his wife Carol have two sons, Jordan (10) and Cory (7).
Robinson replaces former assistant coach Joanne Bowers who accepted a position as head coach at the University of Washington.
