Placekicker Rivas on Groza Award Watch List

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- University of Michigan senior kicker Garrett Rivas (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit HS) has been selected to the Preseason Watch List for the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award. The announcement came Tuesday (Aug. 15) from the Palm Beach Country Sports Authority, the group sponsoring the award. Rivas is one of 30 Watch List candidates for the 15th annual Lou Groza Award.

A three-year starter, Rivas is fifth all-time at Michigan in scoring with 261 career points. He has converted 47-of-62 field goals and 120-of-127 PATs during his career with a career long 47-yard field goal on four different occasions. Rivas is third in U-M annals in career field goals and field goals attempted and ranks fourth in career field goal percentage (75.8 pct.).
He was All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2005 and was a semifinalist for the Groza Award. Rivas led the team in scoring with 90 points last season, converting 19-of-26 field goals and 33-of-35 PATs.
The 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 7, followed by the naming of the three finalists two weeks later on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 7, during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Award Show in Orlando, Fla.
