
Bauer Leads Wolverines for Fourth Straight Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Sophomore Ashley Bauer(Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) finished as the top Wolverine for the fourth straight tournament, as the University of Michigan women's golf team tied for fourth with a season-best event total of 908 Wednesday (Oct. 17) at Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate on the New Mexico State University Golf Course.
The Maize and Blue opened the three-day event with a 302 first-round team total Monday (Oct. 15) to tie for fourth. In Tuesday's (Oct. 16) second round, the Wolverines subtracted a stroke, tallying a 301 for a 603 total, moving U-M into a tie for second after 36 holes. Playing with second day leaders N.C. State and Idaho, Michigan closed with a 305 final round to fall two spots and close tied for fourth.
Bauer continued the string of fours, posting her fourth straight top-20 as the top Wolverine for the fourth straight tournament, tying for fourth with a 222 total. Bauer opened with a season-best-tying 72 in the opening round, which was followed with a 74 in the second round. In the final round, she closed with a 76 to cap off her first to-five finish of the season.
Senior co-captain Lindsay Davis(Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) posted her first top-20 finish of the season, tying for 17th with a season-best 227 total. Opening with a 79, Davis rallied in the second round, shooting a season-best one-over 73 before closing with a 75. Junior co-captain Lydia Bentez Coln(Dorado, P.R./Pendleton School) has another consistent tournament, tying for 31st with a 231 total with rounds of 77, 78 and 76.
Other Wolverine finishes include: freshman Min Yean Tan(Queensland, Australia/Hills International College), tied for 35th with a 232 total (74-80-78); freshman Louisa Shu(West Bloomfield, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm), tied for 51st with a 236 total (79-76-81), and senior Isabelle Gendreau(St. Georges de Beauce, Quebec/Saint Andrew's School),who played as an individual, placing 84th with a 251 total (83-81-87).
Oklahoma used a final round- and tournament-best 297 to move from fifth to first, as the Sooners (300-305-297) closed with a four-shot win with a 902 total. Idaho (302-301-303) was second at 906, while UC Davis (300-308-299) was third at 907. Individually, the UC Davis duo of Chelsea Stelzmiller and Bryana Gregory finished 1-2 in the standings. Stelzmiller (74-74-71) was the medalist with a 219 total, while Gregory (70-75-75) was the runner-up at 220. Idaho's Kelly Nakashima (74-72-75) was third at 221.
The Wolverines will close their fall season in Wilmington, N.C., Friday through Sunday (Oct. 26-28) for the 2007 Landfall Tradition. The three-day tournament will be played at the Country Club of Landfall. It will mark the third straight season the Wolverines will participate in the event, which is hosted by UNC Wilmington.

Michigan posted a season-best 54-hole tournament total with a 908 showing at Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate. The Maize and Blue topped the 916 total U-M had in the season-opening Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 8-9).
With her season-best tie for fourth-place finish at Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate, Ashley Bauer has finished as the top Wolverine in all four tournaments this season. During her career, Bauer has finished as the top U-M individual in eight of 16 events.
Ashley Bauer tied her season-best single round score with an even-par 72 first round at Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate. She equaled the 72 she shot in the first round of the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 29-30).
Lindsay Davis posted a season-best one-over 73 in second round of Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate. The round topped the 75 she fired in the first round of the Wolverine Invitational. Davis posted a season-best 54-hole total 227 in New Mexico.
Ashley Bauer started her 16th straight tournament for the Wolverines. She has yet to miss a start for U-M during her career. Lindsay Davis, Lydia Bentez Coln and Min Yean Tan have started all five tournaments this season.
Isabelle Gendreau competed in her second straight tournament as an individual.
