MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Sophomore Mike Sroczynski(Chatham, N.J./Laurel Springs School) and freshman Jason Jung(Torrance, Calf./West Torrance HS) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team fell a few games shy of claiming the doubles crown at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships Monday (Oct. 22) at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
Sroczynski and Jung, who posted four straight victories Friday through Sunday (Oct. 19-21) to reach the semifinals of the 64-team main draw, extended their winning streak with an 8-6 triumph over Wisconsin's Luke Rassow-Kantor and Jeremy Sonkin in the morning match.
The afternoon championship match saw Ohio State's No. 7-ranked pairing of Drew Eberly and Justin Kronauge earn an early break to go up 3-1, and the Buckeye duo took care of all its service games for the remainder of the match to clinch an 8-5 victory and the title.
Junior Mike DePietro(Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS), sophomore George Navas(Tampa, Fla./Tampa Preparatory School) and freshman Chris Madden(Lotus, Calif./Ponderosa HS) will compete in the Crimson Tide Fall Championships, which will be held Friday through Sunday (Oct. 26-28) at the University of Alabama's Varsity Courts in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
