Serving and Passing: Karlee Bruck to Jackie Nissen

"Serving and Passing" allows a U-M volleyball player to interview another for MGoBlue.com and ask several stock questions along with a few of her own. Each week one Wolverine will "serve" up questions and then "pass" the tape recorder and reporter's hat to the interviewee, who will select a subject for the following week, when she becomes the interviewer. Check back every Wednesday for a new installment.
This week's "Serving and Passing" features two classmates who play the same positions -- freshman middle blockers/right-side hitters Karlee Bruck and Jackie Nissen -- with Nissen answering Bruck's questions.
How did you get started in volleyball
As a kid I played almost every sport there was to offer in my area. In seventh grade, volleyball was one sport that I still hadn't given a try, but many people told me I had the height and athleticism for it. After playing a season in middle school, I decided to try out for the club team in my area, and I've been playing ever since.
What's your favorite game day routine
I like to listen to music with Maggie Busch. I also love the walk down to Cliff Keen with the freshmen (when we're home). We're always really hyper and ready to play.

What is your favorite non-volleyball Michigan memory
Movie nights in my room!
What is your favorite volleyball Michigan memory
Going to Hawaii for my first college volleyball trip was an awesome memory. It was so much fun to start the season with a win against Hawaii and to see my friend from club who plays at the University of Hawaii.
What piece of advice would you give to a younger player looking to be a college player
My best advice is to find ways to challenge yourself to become the best you can be.
What's your favorite place to eat on campus
I love Sadako ... sushi!
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you want to go and why
I've always loved traveling, so I have a lot of places I want to go to. If I had to pick one, though, I think it would be awesome to go to Africa and use my nursing education to give care to African families.
What is your most embarrassing moment
I'm VERY easily embarrassed; I have embarrassing moments every day.
Is freshman year what you expected it to be
Actually, not really. The biggest thing is that I thought I was going to live on the fifth floor of South Quad with a bunch of athletes, and I actually live on the ground floor with no athletes (which isn't a bad thing, I really like a lot of the girls on my floor). I also thought I was going to struggle a little more with time management.
What is the craziest thing you've ever done
I went whitewater rafting through the Grand Canyon. It was awesome, but scary at times.
