
Michigan Inks Sulahian During Early Signing Period

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis program announced Monday (Nov. 19) that Michelle Sulahian of Valley Glen, Calif., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend U-M and compete for the Wolverines in 2008-09.
A four-year varsity letterwinner at Campbell Hall High School, Sulahian played at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles the past three seasons. She was named to the All-Olympic League first team all four years and guided her team to the Olympic League championship and California Interscholastic Federation Division 3 state title as a freshman in 2004. Sulahian is considered a five-star recruit and has been ranked as high as No. 38 by www.TennisRecruiting.net.
Sulahian achieved career-best USTA national singles rankings of No. 95 for Girls 18-and under (No. 20 in Southern California section) and No. 32 for Girls 16-and-under (No. 3 in Southern California section). She claimed singles titles at the California Ball and SCTA Santa Barbara designated tournaments, as well as runner-up finishes at the USTA National Open and Roxy National events.
Sulahianwas ranked as high as No. 22 nationally in doubles for Girls 18-and-under (No. 1 in Southern California section) and No. 8 for Girls 16-and-under (No. 2 in Southern California section). She won three USTA National Open doubles crowns and was a finalist at the International Spring Championships. Sulahian also claimed doubles titles at the Wilson National Tournament, the Prince Grand Prix and the Southern California sectional championship.
"We are very excited to add Michelle to our program next year," said U-M head coach Ronni Bernstein. She is an all-around player with a lot of talent. Michelle has the type of game that can really develop in college."
The Wolverines will graduate one senior, Allie Shafner(Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek HS), at the conclusion of the 2008 dual-match season.
