
Kipf, Williams and Wechter Elected 2008 Team Captains

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team's coaching staff announced Thursday (Nov. 29) that junior/sophomore John Kipf(Monroe, Mich./St. Mary's HS), junior Lex Williams(Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter HS) and senior Andrew Wechter(Shelby, Ohio/Shelby HS) have been named team tri-captains for the 2008 season.
Kipf placed 12th in the high jump (6-6) at the 2007 Big Ten Outdoor Championships (May 11-13) and 16th in the high jump (6-5) at the Big Ten Indoor Championships (Feb. 24-25). Kipf also set a career-best mark of 6-8 at the UNC Invite (March 30-31), finishing first overall.
Returning from an outstanding indoor season is Williams, who earned All-America honors in the distance medley relay and was first-team All-Big Ten and U-M's Big Ten sportsmanship honoree. He was a member of the sixth-place distance medley relay team (9:38.93) at the NCAA Indoor Championships and won the 5,000-meter run Big Ten title (14:04.43) and the distance medley relay Big Ten title (9:45.39) at the Big Ten Indoor Championships (Feb. 24-25).
Following a quality 2007 season, Wechter's expectations have risen after he placed ninth as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team (3:09.62) at the NCAA Mideast Regional (May 25-26) and finished sixth in the 400-meter dash (47.11) at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships (May 11-13) last year.
