ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman defender Jackie Carron(Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) of the University of Michigan women's soccer team added a national honor to her resum by being named to the Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America third team Wednesday (Dec. 26).
The laurel marks Carron's third from Soccer Buzz this season, as she was named to the All-Great Lakes third team and the regional All-Freshman squad last week (Dec. 21). Carron was in the starting lineup for all of Michigan's 18 games this season.
Carron becomes the first Wolverine to receive the Freshman All-America nod since Jamie Artsis (2004-06) and Melissa Dobbyn(Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) earned third team and honorable mention, respectively, for their performance during the 2004 campaign. Carron joins Artsis, Dobbyn and second team honorees Abby Crumpton (1999-2002) and Kacy Beitel (1997-2000) as the only U-M players named to Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America teams since the award's inception in 1997.
The Soccer Buzz awards are based on a nomination process open to all NCAA Division I coaches and balloting results of a voting panel of selected Division I head coaches and Soccer Buzz staff.
