Safety at Yost Ice Arena
Updated for 2024-25 season
Bag Policy
All bags (including purses and fanny packs) are prohibited from being carried into Yost Ice Arena. Fans are encouraged to bring ONLY necessary items to games at Yost Ice Arena. All subjects and items are subject to search. Please email guestservices@umich.edu with specific questions.
Exceptions for guests with medical or childcare needs (e.g., medical prescriptions, diapers for a baby, etc.) will be addressed individually at the entrances. Guests with medical or childcare needs may expedite their entry at the entrances by requesting approval of their necessary item(s) ahead of time using our Special Permission Form. Requests will be reviewed and approved or denied by 3 p.m. the day before each home game. Approved items will be searched and tagged at the solutions table at each gate on game day.Â

What You Should Do
Based on the nature of a specific event or emergency, directions to guests and staff will be communicated via public address announcements and video scoreboard messages. Guests are requested to listen to announcements and remain seated until instructed otherwise.
Fire: If you discover a fire or smell smoke, please notify the nearest Event Team Member or a police officer immediately. Event Team Members are stationed throughout the arena concourse. If you cannot locate one right away, call 911.
Building Emergency: In the event of a serious incident during the game, Event Team Members and law enforcement personnel may direct that actions be taken to protect all of our guests. Please remain calm and listen to all instructions carefully. If you are asked to evacuate the building, please do not run or panic and follow the instructions of Event Team Members.
What Not To Do
In order to ensure a safe environment for all those attending events at the University of Michigan, we want to remind you about two key provisions of the University of Michigan Regents Ordinance:
- No person shall throw, project or drop any projectile or object that could cause injury, damage or interference in the spectator or playing area.
- Unauthorized entry onto the playing surface before, during or after the event is prohibited.
Violation of these articles of the University ordinance, or any other University policies or rules, will be subject to all penalties and fines permitted under those policies, rules, ordinances and any other applicable law.
