U-M Concludes Action at the Winter Cup Challenge

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- The No. 1-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team sent three Wolverines to the 2007 Winter Cup Challenge final round on Saturday (Feb. 10) at Sports Center Arena. Sophomore Ralph Rosso (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney HS) led the Wolverines with a 21st place finish, tallying 70.950 points.
Sophomore Joe Catrambone (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester Catholic HS) also had a fifth-place finish for the Wolverines, hitting a 14.650 on the high bar. He finished the evening with a total of 41.500 after competing on the high bar, rings and parallel bars. On the rings, Catrambone tied for 14th place (14.550) and finished in 34th on the p-bars (12.300).
Senior/junior co-captain Andrew Elkind (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East HS) finished in 26th in the all-around, earning 56.200 points despite not competing on the vault and floor exercise. Elkind's best performance of the evening came on the p-bars, where he tied for ninth place with a score of 15.150. Elkind finished 18th on the rings (13.950) and 17th on the high bar (13.750). On the pommel horse, Elkind tied for 19th with a routine of 13.350.
The Wolverines continue Big Ten action against the Minnesota Gophers on Saturday (Feb. 17) at Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. The meet begins at 7 p.m.

Sean Townsend of HGA/GymMasters won the competition with a score of 89.050 and automatically qualified to the 2007 U.S. National Team.
