Harris Honored With All-Big Ten Third Team Selection

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior guard Dion Harris (Detroit, Mich./Redford HS) of the University of Michigan men's basketball team was named to the All-Big Ten Conference third team by the Big Ten coaches and media Tuesday (March 6), while senior Brent Petway (McDonough, Ga./Griffin HS) is among the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honorees. The conference honor is the third in Harris' career after he was named to the All-Freshman team (2003-04) and received an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection (2004-05).

In his final season with the Wolverines, Harris led the Maize and Blue in scoring averaging with 13.6 points per game. He has scored in double figures in 21-of-31 games with eight 20-plus point games, including a career-best 27 against Minnesota on Feb. 10. Harris shot up the U-M career scoring list; he is currently 14th all-time with 1,551 career points.
Harris started 29-of-31 games this season and surpassed the 1,000 minute mark (1,005) for the second season of his career. He became the 50th Wolverine to surpass 100-career games (127 total), and the fifth Wolverine to play more than 4,000 career minutes (4,058).
Harris averaged a career-best 3.8 assists a game as he posted a new-single season career best with 118 on the season, marking his second 100-plus assist season. He has also set a new-single season career-best with 37 steals on the season as he cracked into Michigan's all-time top 10 (134, 9th). Known for his long range shooting, Harris moved into the No. 2 spot all-time for three-point field goals made (260) and attempted (727) after sinking 64 long range buckets this season.
In his final season, Petway has been known as the Wolverine "Heart and Soul" of the team. He started 28-of-31 games -- the most in his career -- after started five prior games in three seasons. Petway averaged 6.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. Late in the season, he became the 37th Wolverine to join the 500-point/500-rebound club at Michigan with his 668 career points and 528 career rebounds.
The Wolverines (20-11, 8-8 Big Ten) will open the 2007 Big Ten Tournament in Chicago, Ill., as the No. 8 seed. The Maize and Blue will face No. 9-seeded Minnesota (9-21, 3-13 Big Ten ) in the first round Thursday (March 8) at 11 a.m. CST on ESPN2. The winner will advance to face No. 1-seeded Ohio State in the second round Friday (March 9) at 11 a.m. CST on ESPN.
