This Week: NCAA Championships
The University of Michigan womens track and field team closes its 2007 season this week at the NCAA Outdoor Champions, hosted by Sacramento State University, Wednesday through Saturday (June 6-9) in Sacramento, Calif., at Hornets Stadium.

Michigan automatically qualified eight athletes for the championships --junior Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Mantioba/Vincent Massey HS), fifth-year senior co-captain Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac HS), fifth-year senior co-captain Arianne Field, sophomore Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS), sophomore Tiffany Ofili (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti), sophomore Bettie Wade (Northville, Mich./Farmington HS), senior Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child HS) and graduate/senior Anna Willard (Greenwood, Maine/Telstar Regional HS).

At last year's NCAA Championships, the Wolverines finished 13th with a program-high total of 19 points. The Maize and Blue finished the four-day meet with four outdoor All-Americans -- its second highest total -- for the third time (1983 and 1998).

Last Week: Michigan Takes Third at Regionals
The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team won three event titles Saturday (May 26) and completed the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships with a third-place finish, tallying 63 points at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. LSU captured the team title with 112 points, while Arkansas finished second (77).

Three Wolverines -- Katie Erdman, Nicole Edwards and Anna Willard all claimed NCAA Mideast Regional titles to assist the Wolverines in their finish.

Did You Know...

The highest point total for U-M at the NCAA Outdoor Championships is 25 (16th place) in 1983. The highest team finish for Michigan is 13th -- set in 2006 -- with the second-highest point total in program history (19).

The Maize and Blue have never claimed an outdoor NCAA team title in 17 appearances at the meet.

The only individual National Champion for U-M is Penny Neer (discus, 1982), who claimed her title in the AIAW (Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) National Championships. The Wolverines have never won an individual NCAA National Championship title.

Michigan has a total of 45 outdoor All-Americans (including the six AIAW All-Americans).

The most outdoor All-America citations that U-M earned in one year was five in 1982 at the AIAW National Championships. The most outdoor All-America citations earned for the Wolverines in the NCAA in one year was four in 1983, '98 and 2006.

Arianne Field and Anna Willard have the opportunity to become the first Wolverines to earn All-America honors in the 3,000m steeplechase in program history.

If Tiffany Ofili earns All-America citations, she will be the first-ever U-M sprinter to claim the honors.

If Bettie Wade earns All-America honors in both the high jump and heptathlon, she will be the first-ever Wolverine to claim the honors.
