ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's track and field head coach Ron Warhurst announced the signing of two recruits for the 2008 season on Monday (June 25). Robert Peddlar (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Boys School) and Tyler Arnold (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland) signed letters of intent to join the Wolverines next season.
"We are extremely excited to have landed two top scholar athletes in the later signing period," said Warhurst. "Both Robert and Tyler offer great range in their respective event areas and we expect they will contribute as freshman."
Peddlar is a jumper who comes to Ann Arbor from the same school as former Michigan star Neil Gardner in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a two-time Penn Relays high school triple jump champion, winning the event over the past two seasons (2006-07). His personal best marks are 50-2 (15.29m) in the triple jump and 24-5 3/4 (7.46m) in the long jump.
Arnold is a sprinter who will join the Maize and Blue after attending Highland High School in Gilbert, Ariz. Arnold is the Arizona State Champion in the 400-meter dash and has personal best marks of 47.73 in the 400-meter dash and 21.74 in the 200-meter dash.
Warhurst says, "When you add these two with our other signees -- Craig Forys in distance, Sean Jackson in sprints and Carl Buchanon in hurdles -- we have an outstanding group coming into Michigan this fall."
