Shepherd Leads Canada Into World Games Semifinals

BANGKOK, Thailand -- With a 10-point effort, junior Jevohn Shepherd (Toronto, Ontario/West Hill Collegiate) of the University of Michigan men's basketball team helped Team Canada to a 68-63 win against Germany on Wednesday (Aug. 15) as the Canadians advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 World University Games.
Canada will face Lithuania Thursday (Aug. 16) for the opportunity to advance and play for a gold medal. The Canada/Lithuania winner will face the winner of the Japan/Serbia semifinal in the gold medal game Saturday (Aug. 18). The semifinal losers will play for the bronze medal.
After Shepherd helped Canada to preliminary-round wins over Thailand (96-43, Aug. 7) and New Zealand (74-62, Aug. 8) with 13 and 28 points, respectively, Canada dropped its first game in the second phase of play with a hard-fought 82-79 setback to Korea on Sunday (Aug. 12). Shepherd scored two points on a pair of free throws.
The next night (Monday, Aug. 13), Shepherd responded with 19 points on 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line in an 83-54 win over Israel that put Canada in the quarterfinals against Germany on Wednesday. Shepherd was one of players who scored in double figures as Team Canada advanced to the semifinals with the 68-63 win.
Overall at the World University Games, Shepherd is averaging 14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals in five games for Team Canada.
