COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Swimming announced Wednesday (Sept. 26) that junior Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team was named to the 2007-08 National Team.
In order to make the team, a swimmer must have one of the top six times in Olympic events swum in finals from World Championships, Pan American Games, World University Games and Senior Nationals.
Brunemann earned her National Team spot with the sixth-best time in the 800-meter freestyle. She turned in an Olympic Trials qualifying time of 8:37.77 in the 800 freestyle in a strong showing at the 2007 ConocoPhillips National Championships (July 31-Aug. 4). Her time of 8:39.57 in the 800-meter race at the World Swimming Grand Prix (Aug. 21-24) in Chiba, Japan, was good for ninth place among the world's best swimmers.
Brunemann also earned the national title in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the Senior National Championships and set a lifetime best in the 400-meter freestyle.
As a sophomore Brunemann earned her first NCAA All-America accolade in the 1,650-yard freestyle on a Big Ten and school-record time of 16:00.89. A 2007 All-Big Ten Conference second team member, she also holds the conference and Michigan records in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
The 2008 USA Olympic Team Trials will take place June 29-July 6, 2008, in Omaha, Neb., as USA Swimming continues to build toward the XXIX Olympics in Beijing, China.
