Edwards, Webster Finish in Top 10 at Notre Dame Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Senior/junior Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) and fifth-year senior Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child) continued their success in the month of September, finishing in the top 10 to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish (148 points) Friday (Sept. 28) at the Notre Dame Invitational on Notre Dame Golf Course.
Edwards ran with the lead pack from the beginning of the race and continued to battle for the first-place position until the end, finishing third with a time of 16:47. Webster, who was the Big Ten runner of the week after she won the Indiana Open on Sept. 8, finished 10th with a time of 17:07. The Wolverines had three other runners finish in the top 50. Freshman Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) contended with the lead runners but fell short to finish 40th in her second race of the season, setting a personal-record time of 17:44.
Other Wolverines that finished among the top 50 included fifth-year senior Elisabeth Uible (Cincinnati, Ohio/Upper Arlington), who came in 46th with a mark of 17:48, and junior/sophomore Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) , who finished 49th at 17:50.
All eight of Michigan's runners finished in the top 63 spots of the 162-person field. The fourth-place finish came against several ranked schools, including No. 7 Illinois, No. 12 Florida State, No. 16 North Carolina State, No. 26 Boston College and No. 27 Notre Dame.
The Wolverines will return to action Friday, Oct. 5, at the Michigan Intercollegiate in Rochester, Mich. on the Katke-Cousins Golf Course. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
