U-M's Gates Tabbed To Two National Teams of the Week

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The performance of junior goalkeeper Madison Gates (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) of the University of Michigan women's soccer team was recognized Wednesday (Sept. 5) by two national publications, both adding her to their teams of the week. Gates was named to the Soccer America Women's Team of the Week and the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week after she blanked No. 2 Notre Dame on Friday (Aug. 31) in a 0-0 tie.

Gates put together the best performance of her career in the 2007 season opener in South Bend, Ind., shutting out the Irish in a double-overtime thriller. The Wolverine goalkeeper made a career-high ten saves in the season debut.
Earlier this week, Gates' strong showing was recognized by the Big Ten Conference, which named her conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday (Sept. 3).
The Wolverines (0-0-1, 0-0-0 Big Ten) will host Cincinnati on Friday (Sept. 7) in U-M's home opener. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. on the U-M Soccer Field.
