WEDNESDAY, OCT. 1 -- Prepping Continues for Next Outing
Last weekend was a much needed weekend off. The guys got some down time and got to enjoy an incredible comeback for the football team against Wisconsin. What a lesson in perseverance and sticking to a game plan.
This week we had some great qualifying rounds at Radrick Farms and Barton Hills. They guys continue to play good golf and we had a lot of under par rounds. It is good to see our guys go to other golf courses and shoot good scores rather than just playing well at home.
Both of those courses were good tests for our next tournament at North Shore Country Club outside of Chicago, Ill. The starters continued to play well in qualifying with Lion (Kim) winning with a two round score of six-under with Alexander (Sitompul) right behind him at four-under. We get to take an individual to the Windon this week. Fresh off of his one-under score in the Wolverine Matt (Thompson) shot 73 and 71 on two courses he was not familiar with. So, with those encouraging scores, we decided we will be taking him as the individual and see if he can take his solid play on the road.
We announced the line-up today and that is a pretty agonizing thing for me as a coach. There were not many surprises, but it still hurts to leave players who are playing well at home. That is one of the toughest things about college golf. When you travel you always leave about half of your team at home. You can be the third string punter and get to go to the Rose Bowl, but if you are the sixth man -- by one shot -- in golf you dont even make the trip.
We are excited to hit the course again and get to play some Big Ten schools as well as some other good teams from across the country. Northwestern always puts on a great event and hopefully, we will continue our good play.
