Jung, Sroczynski Reach Quarterfinals at ITA Championships

TULSA, Okla. -- Sophomore Jason Jung(Torrance, Calif./West Torrance HS) and junior Mike Sroczynski(Chatham, N.J./Laurel Springs School) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team reached the quarterfinals today (Oct. 10) before falling to the Texas Tech pair to complete their run through the doubles main draw at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Wolverine duo, ranked No. 18 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason poll, reached the quarterfinals with a 9-7 win over Boris Fetbroyt and Andy Orban from Maryland in the second round, but fell in the quarterfinals to Raony Carvalho and Christian Rojmar of Texas Tech, 8-4.

In the second-round match, Jung and Sroczynski picked up their fourth win of the season and their third consecutive in a victory over the sixth-ranked duo from Maryland. In a match that went back and forth, the Wolverines were able to hold serve late in the match to move into the quarterfinal round.

Jung and Sroczynski started well in the quarterfinal match, gaining an early lead but could not hold giving the Texas Tech pair some momentum. The Michigan pair tried to fight back but found themselves in a hole and dropped the match, 8-4. With the win, the Red Raider duo advanced to the semifinals.

The Michigan pair finished the week with a 2-1 record in the prestigious national tournament. Jung and Sroczynski's quarterfinal appearance was the furthest a Michigan duo has advanced in the doubles main draw of the national tournament since 2006 when former Wolverines Brian Hung and Matko Maravic reached the main-draw finals.

The Wolverines and their teammates will continue fall action when they head to the ITA Midwest Regional Championship next week in Columbus, Ohio. The event held at Stickney Tennis Center will begin next Thursday (Oct. 16) and run through Monday (Oct. 20).
